I live in LA and used to work in copper mines out in Nevada. Now I help move supplies for a mineral company here. Since I'm getting closer to retirement, I've been looking for good ways to save money that work well for people in mining. I'd love to hear what others are using. If you've found something that fits our kind of work and pay, please share.

A 401(k) with employer match is a great way to begin. Some mining places might give you union-backed plans or let you share the profits. You should also think about Roth IRAs and cheap index funds to get more control.

Good call, think about Roth IRAs to help your money grow without tax. Also, high-yield savings accounts are great if you need quick cash. Some folks in mining go with union credit unions or plans like the TSP if those are open to them. If you're saving for a while, low-cost index funds are a solid, stable choice.

honestly, I shifted my mindset from just saving money to building wealth. For a lot of ppl in our field, real estate is the way to go.
You can use your solid income to buy a rental property or two. It's a tangible asset you can see and touch, and it gives you a steady income stream in retirement.
It's more hands on than an index fund, which might fit your background better
