advice for breaking into mining with no experience

Looking for some honesty here. I graduated with a BS in Geology in 2008, did a little work in the field, spent a couple years in a PhD program that I quit, and since then it's been odd jobs and farming. No mining experience at all.

Now I'm trying to figure out if there's any chance of getting hired in the mining industry in 2025. I keep reading about tech positions (assay labs, sampling crews, geo techs), but I don't know if those are realistic ways in, or if companies just won't bother with someone whose degree is that old. Do I have a shot at getting in the door, or should I accept that without going back for a master's I'm basically shut out? Any advice on companies or roles worth chasing would help.

Yeah you still have a shot. Plenty of people get in through tech or contract jobs. The age of your degree is not a dealbreaker if you are motivated, willing to learn, and mobile.

You've got a shot at this. Tech positions, such as geo tech or sampling crew, don't require you to be a recent grad, what's important is having a field-ready attitude and a basic understanding of geology. Focus on junior roles that offer training, and make sure to point out any practical experience you have. No need for a master's to get started
