as the title says, I've got a degree in Mining, but I'm totally fired up to work in both the petroleum and mining industries during my career. I think life's too short not to try everything, right?
I've been Googling whether my Mining Degree is good enough to land a job in Oil and Gas, but all those searches don't give many results
I'm looking for the real scoop! Has anyone here actually made the switch? What roles are realistic for a mining background in the petroleum world? Hit me with your honest advice, thanks

I totally get what you’re saying life’s too short to stick to one lane. I’ve seen a few mining graduates transition into the oil and gas field often beginning in roles like drilling or operations support. It’s definitely doable though it might require a bit of extra training. I hope someone with real experience can chime in!

There's a significant overlap between mining and petroleum, which means your mining degree can open doors in the oil and gas industry. You could find yourself in roles related to drilling, reservoir and production work, project engineering, HSE, or geotech. Just focus on showcasing your rock mechanics and project skills, you might only need a touch of petroleum coursework. Go for it!
