I've become very interested in mining and drilling technology lately. At the moment, I'm a university graduate and thinking about how to start a career in this industry. I'm curious if there are common paths people take to get into mining. Are there apprenticeship programs or entry-level training opportunities for someone with my background? I'd love to hear how some of you started out or any advice you might have. I appreciaet any guidance you can share

Apply for work at mining companies using resources like linkedin or various mining and company job boards. Most physical labor is transferable to the industry. STEM degrees, accounting, HR and safety degrees can also get your foot in the door. Persistence will pay off. When you get a job, try anything they ask, even if it is out of your comfort zone. Ask questions, accept responsibility and accountability.

Good luck

It is difficult to start a forum, so to do my bit, I will answer any questions regarding placer mining or gold mining in the Yukon.

Wow, just enjoy an open ended question with possibilities of endless stories, but one will fulfill a possible path to our new energy economy foresight. I was in my 40's and in between jobs where oil rigs needed all hands on a deck or Kelly table across North Dekota, Wyoming (ENCANA Field) and Colorado. I kept my degrees out of my resume stuck with one story but true being a dairy farmer from Idaho. The physical test was a story in itself but 15 people walked in and only three of us passed the majority failed due to alcohol and/or drugs in their system. One week on and one week off started out as a worm (Floorhand) ever day felt like quitting but with in that 1st week the body acclimates after the 2nd week I loved the team work, learning, and a hole week off to spend with the children. Ensign US Drilling prides on one of many things: All CEO, VPs, lawyers, accountants, engineers, HR and safety professionals worked on the oil rig.
