how important is mentorship for a young mining engineer? for those established in the field, how did a mentor help navigate your early career, or what do you wish a guide could have helped you with when you started?
I’m new in this field and want to understand the real world impact of professional guidance on career longevity and technical growth in the industry

When I first started out, I thought I could just tough it out on my own. Then a senior colleague pulled me aside and helped me dodge a costly mistake. That one moment shifted everything for me. A great mentor doesn’t just teach you, they help you develop your instincts much faster.

At the beginning, I didn’t really know which fights were worth taking on or which shortcuts were really traps.
A mentor taught me how to read the situation and figure things out.
Without that support, I’d probably still be stumbling through tough lessons.

Went into mentoring expecting it to be all about coffee chats and career advice, but it ended up being like a survival guide for real life in the field. Having someone fill in the gaps that textbooks miss saved me a ton of time and a few close calls along the way
