Holiday staffing how’s your team rotating this season?

I’ve been managing the schedules at work to ensure there’s coverage without exhausting anyone. I’m interested in how other teams handle their rotations during the holidays. Do you keep the shifts limited or are they more spread out?

When I first started leading a small team, we tried packing the work schedules so people could have longer breaks. But guess what? People got tired real fast. Now, we've spread the shifts out, and my team's much happier during the holidays.

I was once at a place with crazy holiday shift planning. The first to ask got the good times. Then, we moved to a simple rotation. Way more fair, right? A little planning really makes a difference this time of year.

During the holidays, we keep shifts short. A few years ago, we had long shifts and everyone got tired real quick. So now, shorter shifts just work better.

We switched to a spread-out rotation system. Last year, half the team was tired by New Year's. Now we switch staff every few days, keeping everyone on their feet without causing problems.
