Currently rotary drilling with cutting-edge cooling is the fastest option available. That said deep projects are starting to look into plasma and laser methods as well

but have you heard about directed energy drilling? it uses millimeter wave technology to melt through rock. A projected penetration rate of 70 meters per hour is possible with a 1 megawatt system, which is a lot faster than conventional methods, though this technology is still experimental
