We’ve recently brought on a few new team members, and I always feel the weight of responsibility when it comes to training them in controlled blasting. How do you strike the right balance between hands-on experience and ensuring everyone’s safety?

We assign new hires to work alongside seasoned techs and use a checklist system. This helps us prioritize safety while still making strides in our work.

you need to implement a progressive training model that starts with classroom instruction and moves to controlled, supervised hands on tasks in a low risk environment before full operational responsibility
it's important to regularly reinforce safety protocols, ensure all team members understand and use proper PPE, and foster a culture of open communication where trainees feel comfortable asking questions and reporting concerns without fear of judgment

When I was getting new people up to speed, we did kind of the same thing. First, we'd get everyone in a classroom. Then, we'd slowly let them try some work while keeping an eye on them. Doing it that way really helped them get sure of themselves, and it made sure everyone stayed safe.
