Diesel additives in the cold

When you're out in the freezing cold, and your engine is cranking slowly while the fuel starts to gel, it can be a real nightmare. So, which cold-weather diesel additives have actually made a difference for you, and which ones are just a bunch of hype?

Had this one crazy storm where my diesel totally froze up. Tried some cheap stuff to fix it, but no dice. The next season, I started using Howes, and it's been working great ever since.

Used to think fuel additives were a joke, until one massive snowstorm left me stuck with gelled fuel. A friend told me to use Stanadyne, and after I put it in, my engine turned over like a champ, even when it was super cold. I've been using the good brands ever since and staying away from those flashy ones that sound too good to be true.
