Curious about resdev vs GC drilling rigs

Trying to settle a debate on the main differences between these two. If you’ve spent time behind the controls of both, which one do you prefer for daily ops? Looking for the boots on the ground perspective on reliability and footprint. Cheers!

I used both of them for a few seasons, and the main thing I saw was how they handle tight spots. One was just easier to deal with when things got crowded. For everyday use, that alone made picking one super simple.

well, if the ground is ugly and the hole is deep, I'll use the ResDev rig. they’re built with higher torque specs and beefier hydraulics because they expect to be grinding all day
GC rigs are great all rounders, but I’ve seen them struggle when you push them into the kind of high production rock drilling that a ResDev rig eats for breakfast
in short, ResDev is built for the marathon, GC is built for the sprint

I had both models available back when I was doing supply runs and weekend projects. The bigger one could really pull, but it was big and always needed fixing. The smaller one wasn’t quite as strong, but it could fit anywhere, didn’t need a lot of gas, and I could always rely on it. When you use it every day, being able to depend on it matters more than just being strong.

I spent a whole season switching between the two when I was helping my friend with his landscaping thing. Sure, one had power, but the lighter one was just easier to handle every day. If you are trying to choose based on being able to depend on it and being able to move it around, I’d go with that one.

From a boots-on-the-ground perspective, uptime and footprint are the key factors.
The unit that’s easier to service and fits better in confined working areas is usually the better choice for daily operations.

Absolutely, having easy service and a small size really impacts how things run in the real world.

I think it really comes down to torque vs. mobility. ResDev units are absolute tanks, if you're hitting hard rock or deep formations, you need that extra hydraulic muscle
GC rigs are easier to move and set up, but they'll definitely start to have a hard time once you hit the tough stuff

That makes sense. Seems like it’s a trade-off between having a lot of power and being able to navigate easily.
