What’s the hardest part of training new miners?

Just chatted with a friend about getting new people on the team and it made me think about how everyone learns at their speed. Some get it fast. Others need a bit more time.

So, I was wondering, what do you think is the hardest part of teaching new miners? Is it safety stuff, using the gear, or just getting used to everything? I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

Honestly, the trickiest thing for me is hammering home just how important safety is. When I was green, I thought I knew everything, but a near miss woke me up real quick. Now, when I'm showing newbies the ropes, I really focus on making sure they understand why we sweat the small stuff when it comes to safety.

Getting them good with all the equipment usually takes up the most time. I can still remember my first week, all thumbs and totally lost. But things clicked once I actually got my hands on the stuff. That's why I make a point of giving the new miners plenty of time to get used to the gear before they have to do the tough stuff.
