After years of grinding away in the shop, I found that a few random talents totally unrelated to machines ended up saving me time and headaches. What’s that surprising skill that’s made a difference in your work?
I used to do a lot of miniature painting and model building. so, the steady hand and patience ended up being a lifesaver for fine tuning delicate sensors and soldering small connections in dusty cabinets haha
I’m strangely good at seeing tiny differences in colors. I’m not a superhero or anything, but I can pick up on a cable that’s wired wrong or paint that’s a little off before it causes problems. It’s a small talent, but it really saves time at work.
I picked up some origami skills when I was a kid, and weirdly, it’s come in handy. I use it to make paper models to check layouts or wire paths. It’s saved me from messing things up a couple of times on tough jobs.
Being super organized with my garage shelves is clutch. Because I know exactly where everything is, I don’t waste time hunting for tools when I’m in the middle of something. It’s a small thing, but it saves a ton of time.
