After a few hours on the job, with the screens shining bright and the haul roads starting to look the same, it's clear just how much we depend on sensors these days. Which fatigue detection systems have worked well on your site, and which ones just seem like background noise?

Last year, we rolled out a camera fatigue system. It flagged real problems early on, but eventually, the beeping became background noise like a smoke alarm you just learn to ignore.

We tested wearables for tracking fatigue on-site. At first, the complaints were nonstop, but when it flagged a few close calls, opinions shifted. Still, nothing beats stepping outside for a break.

I’ve analyzed plenty of fatigue data dashboards, but the most effective system we had was a supervisor who could tell when someone was running on empty. Sensors help, but human instinct is vital.
