If you’re weighing the pros and cons of an electric truck versus a diesel one, you might be curious about maintenance costs over five years. Do EVs really save you money on parts, service, and surprise repairs? Let’s break down the numbers and share some real-life experiences to see how they stack up.

We used to run diesel work trucks for ages, then decided to add one electric vehicle (EV) to the fleet just to see how it would go. Five years later, we’ve had way fewer service visits and no oil changes at all, though I found that tires and software updates still hit my wallet harder than I thought they would.

I keep a close eye on costs, and I have to say, over five years, the EV definitely comes out ahead when it comes to routine service. However, if something electronic goes wrong, the repair bill can quickly wipe out any savings I made from going diesel.

After looking into refreshing our diesel trucks, I went for the EV, hoping to cut down on maintenance costs. Overall, the upkeep has been lighter, but the real savings could hinge on whether we can steer clear of any unexpected battery or drivetrain issues once the warranty runs out.

We converted one of our old diesel vehicles to an electric one for local trips. Regular maintenance is much cheaper since there’s no oil and fewer filters to worry about. That said, we still run into some software issues and need specialized parts occasionally. Overall, it’s been a good move for maintenance.
