How to assess battery health in remote site vehicles

With our haul trucks often located far from the shop, it’s crucial to know which batteries are failing before they leave us in a bind underground.
Jumping them can be quite the ordeal. What field tests or portable tools can reliably check battery health in remote areas
without needing to bring a full diagnostic setup each time?
 
I always have a small handheld load tester and a clamp meter in the service truck. In just two minutes, you can do a quick crank check and figure out which battery is causing the issue before it leaves you stuck underground.
 
For our tests, we also use a portable conductance tester and a thermal gun. When batteries are bad, they heat up quickly under load, so you can easily identify the weak one without needing to take it back to the shop.
 
I just toss a carbon pile tester and jump pack in the box. You load it up, watch the voltage drop, and you've got your answer before anyone starts pushing a dead haul truck.
 
A handheld load tester is your best friend out there, it beats discovering a dead battery underground the hard way
